Early Evening Jazz: Paul Harper / Phil Aaron
May 10 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Paul Harper and Phil Aaron will perform jazz standards, modern jazz works, and the occasional song from the popular music world. Expect emotion, lyricism, and reverence for the art of jazz from these two fine musicians.
Mr. Harper (tenor saxophone) and Mr. Aaron (piano) have been playing for a number of years together in the Paul Harper Quartet. They have recently added some duo performances for their audiences. This format gives them the opportunity to explore a more intimate approach and delve deeply into the lyricism of many songs and compositions.
Phil Aaron has been a mainstay in the Twin Cities jazz scene for over 30 years. Phil has recorded five CDs and has performed with many national and international musicians, including Lee Konitz, Eric Alexander, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jim Rotondi, Jim Snidero, Byron Stripling, Kendra Shank, Evan Christopher, John Fedchock, Jackie Allen, and Barbara Morrison. When he’s not leading the Phil Aaron Trio, he’s busy as an accompanist to many Twin Cities singers and a sideman in a number of jazz groups. Phil is also an Emmy-winning composer for film and television.
Paul Harper has been at the forefront of improvised music in Minnesota for decades. His sound and style evoke memories of other greats: John Coltrane, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter.
