Adolfo Mendonça is a Brazilian pianist and the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Minnesota (Morris). He has played in festivals and venues in Brazil, France, Mexico, Chile, and, in the US, the states of Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, and North Dakota. He played with musicians such as Remy Le Boeuf, Romero Lubambo, Clarice Assad, Jose Valentino Ruiz, Dean Sorenson, Mark Tonelly among many others. His music blends jazz with influences of Brazilian music and progressive rock, featuring both acoustic and electronic instrumentation. According to Randy Brecker, the repertoire is “full of resounding originals and standards you’ll love” that “will take your mind off all the troubles in the world these days”(October ’23), while JAZZIZ magazine compared his music lyricism to Chick Corea and included his music at the Winter 2024 and Spring 2024 issues CDs. He will be joined in this night by some of the very best jazz performers in Minnesota: Dean Sorenson (trombone), Kyle Motl (bass) and Phil Hey (drums), playing a set featuring the best of jazz, Brazilian music and a few originals.
